Little English thatched cottages are my jam…and luckily, quite close to where I lived in England was the market town of Ampthill, Bedfordshire which is home to some of the cutest thatched cottages you’ll ever see.
It was coming into late summer, early autumn so the flowers weren’t in full bloom however the gardens still looked gorgeous (it’s the best time of the year for exploring England in my personal opinion…wait till September to explore)…
…and I still wanted to move into each and every thatched cottage…
…maybe I should have become Goldilocks and tried out every cottage until I found one that was “just right”…
…preferably with high ceilings…I’m slightly taller than the fairy tale Goldilocks!
Obviously some cottages decided to play hard to get…
…but I managed to find their best side…
…it took a while but we got there!
So do you want to hear some juicy gossip about Ampthill, Bedfordshire…tough if you don’t…here we go…
…Ampthill has hosted a weekly market for centuries hence it holds the title of an English Market Town as it was granted a charter….in 2019, it will celebrate the 800 year anniversary of that charter…yip a town that is way older than New Zealand…
…Henry VIII (my favourite person in history…imagine having dinner with him…and for some strange reason, I really fancy seeing what his willy looked like, weird I know…you need to read this blog post that sums up King Henry VIII in a fun and interesting read! and here’s another fun post for a giggle)…I’ve totally digressed…a willy will do that obviously…
…so King Henry VIII actually visited Ampthill Castle as Catherine of Aragon lived there before the divorce came through and then she was swiftly moved to Kimbolton…the castle no longer exists…
…Ampthill isn’t that far from Houghton House which is a English Heritage property with fabulous views over Bedfordshire (the original staircase from the house is actually located inside The Swan Hotel in Bedford)...
…is it wrong that I went on google and searched how big was King Henry VIII’s penis?!?!…nope, good…I just couldn’t stop thinking about his willy!!
The market town is quite small with a few cafes dotted around the main centre; the cottages are located down Woburn Street in Ampthill if you decide to go exploring. Pop into visit Woburn Abbey which is close by…there’s a Rembrandt in the basement…it’s all a bit random but that’s Bedfordshire for you!
xx
