Before heading home to New Zealand, I decided it would be nice to spend a day with G in a spa and then scoffing afternoon tea. We had thought about heading into London however our top pick was fully booked so we decided to try out the Spa Day with Afternoon Tea at Fawsley Hall in Northamptonshire which was an easy drive from Bedfordshire.
Spa Reception Areas
The Spa Reception is close to the car park and pretty easy to find.
On arrival we were shown to some tables to fill out the necessary forms prior to our treatments and then shown the facilities by a staff member.
Spa Facilities
The Spa at Fawsley Hall Hotel includes a outdoor jacuzzi, indoor heated pool, sauna and steam room. Unfortunately on our visit the steam room was out of service which was disappointing as this was the reason why I picked this particular hotel for our spa day; I much prefer a steam room to a sauna. I would have appreciated a call from the hotel to advise that the steam room was out of service prior to our arrival…it’s just good customer service.
Treatment
G had a full body massage and enjoyed it however he did say the relaxation room was pretty noisy unfortunately.
I went for a 55 minute luxury facial and I was disappointed with the treatment as I didn’t get my full length of treatment as they were running late, not me! And then the therapist didn’t even look at my skin, she just asked me if I had any skin problems…I wasn’t impressed at all to be honest. My skin was left looking refreshed after the facial and I did manage to fall asleep midway through the treatment…you get me lying flat on my back and I will take a nap!
The Spa Undies
Thankfully I didn’t need to wear any…I would have been concerned if I was provided with spa undies for a facial.
Gluten Free Afternoon Tea Review
Sandwiches
Both G and I received three little finger sandwiches for afternoon tea.
Scones
The gluten free scones passed my gluten free scone test; they were easy to cut into, they didn’t break a tooth and they were tasty. The scones were a tad dry but when covered with clotted cream and jam they became extremely eatable. I will be honest and say that I didn’t like the jam.
Pastries
The gluten free pastries at Fawsley Hall Hotel were rather different from the normal pastries however they made me smile…a bumble bee and flowers! There was an almond biscuit and a few slices. They were a tad sugary for my liking but I did enjoy seeing a variety of pastries on the cake tier.
For the Gluten Eating Monsters
G was happy with his afternoon tea but would have preferred to have two scones…he’s a man and he needs two scones! However I’m sure his doctor would tell him he didn’t need any scones at all.
Tea
I went for the simple peppermint tea…light and refreshing and good after a day in the spa.
Dinner
Oh yes, we were soooo comfortable on the sofas that we ended up staying for dinner as well…as you do!
The Grand Hall looks lovely late at night!
Atmosphere
As soon as I saw the Great Hall I knew that was where I wanted to have my afternoon tea…
…but apparently we were going to be seated in the conservatory, you can imagine what my face looked like…
…so of course we ended up sitting here thankfully; thank goodness I don’t have a poker face!
The Hotel
The hotel is rather pretty from the outside but for me the Grand Hall is what really makes this hotel special!
Would I recommend the Spa and Afternoon Tea at Fawsley Hall Hotel in Northamptonshire – I was a tad disappointed with the spa however I think the afternoon tea is rather reasonably priced, starting at £23.50pp. You can book the afternoon tea here and you can find rather good spa deals here.
So what do you think about combining a spa day with afternoon tea? Which hotel do you recommend checking out?
