Christmas Day 2015 in New Zealand

Christmas in our family is like crack…we’re pretty much addicted and can’t get enough of the festive season so I thought I would share how we spent Christmas Day 2015 with you all.  I like to see how people spend the holidays with their families and all their quirky traditions; it shows a different side to a blogger.  I should point out now that my family is pretty crazy, that’s what people tell us and our Croatian family are always known as the crazy ones in the village…I think we’re pretty normal to be honest.

^^This is Mum, Dad, Lisa and I trying to have a “normal” photo

So our day starts with opening presents…prior to opening our pressies this year we were herded into the shower and dressed…I’m pretty sure Lisa knew what was in one of her presents…two words…Alannah Hill…while I love shoes, Lisa is addicted to Alannah Hill….Lisa was still wearing Alannah Hill to unwrap her presents.

…and more!  Obviously we’d all been well behaved during the year…well mostly…my mum is a rather big trouble maker…she’s taught us well!

We had a “Say Yes to the Dress” dress up moment where mum and Lisa attacked me…I was surrounded by Alannah Hill dresses or should we say a top…it was rather short.  Even dad got into the act and tried on a dress to prove that he does have the best legs in the house (which he does! and it’s bloody annoying)…I have photos to prove it but will hold onto these when blackmailing is required. I ended up getting accessorised by my sister hence I wore a floral headpiece all day…when in New Zealand and all that guff.

Dad and I popped down to see Shell Nana and Poppa at the cemetery and then we all jumped into the car to go and see Birdie Nana and Mate at another cemetery where we met up with Uncle Michael.  We stopped off for ice cream and hot chips at Pokeno for lunch…we celebrity spotted while in Pokeno…our family is just too cool for school even the celebs join us!  I know you’re interested…Lisa spotted Sole Mio (well 2 of them anyway and they’re opera singers just in case you were wondering who I’m talking about…I wouldn’t have had a clue myself).  We shared a few hot chips with the sparrows as it’s Christmas!

We then headed home to start dinner…”we” means mum and dad…although I did put together the trifle (badly) using Shell Nana’s recipe and Lisa made a Leaning Pav Tower of Auckland (I will show you that later!).

^^Festive apron selfie…and I’m still crap at taking selfies…eyes down Kel, eyes down!

As I got a new camera for Christmas…we had a photo session plus mum was concerned that we hadn’t had our annual santa photo…as kiwi mums can only do, she pulled out a santa suit for dad to wear that she apparently picked up in last years Boxing Day Sales…we aren’t asking any questions to why she bought it…sometimes it’s better not to know!

Santa still gets Mince Pies and a drink left out for him…this year a little mouse may have helped him eat the treats (he got caught a few days later but we didn’t realise there was a mouse until Boxing Day!).

^^Yes you are seeing two christmas trees…there’s a third in the kitchen area which is peacock inspired which I haven’t photographed!

Christine and Uncle Michael then arrived for Christmas Dinner which mum and dad had cooked and of course included half the barn yard and lots of veg…I love peas…hands up the pea lovers out there!

Lisa’s Leaning Pav Tower of Auckland…it became the latest victim of Auckland’s leaky house problem.

^^Dad and I had queued up for these strawberries on Christmas Eve morning in Ardmore

After dinner and dessert we opened up presents with Christine…Christine is a Christmas wrapping ninja and I forgot to take a photo of the beautiful wrapping.

Later on when everyone was tucked away in bed, mum and I did some dishes and played Christmas leftover mastermind…trying to fit in all the leftovers into the fridge…we had enough to feed an army and there’s still so much ham to eat!

So that was our Christmas Day 2015 – how did you celebrate?
