Our final hotel for our last two nights in Malaysia was The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur; one of Asia’s most iconic hotels and it was a bit of a beauty. I’m rather a fan of iconic oldies; I love their history, their beauty and they normally have pretty grand service to boot!
We arrived back into Kuala Lumpur via the train station and got picked up by the complimentary shuttle service…you can’t miss the wonderfully dressed gentleman at the train station…so getting the hotel was a breeze.
I had managed to score us a pretty sweet little deal thanks to a special package, if you stayed three nights at the Pangkor Laut Resort (which we did), you were provided with a free night at The Majestic Hotel KL in a standard room. So I booked another night and on check in, asked if we were in the old part of the hotel (there is the old and new wing – I wanted the old wing…I’m a fussy traveller!) and paid for upgrade…it was £60 all up and this included us moving from a standard room to a suite in the old wing of the hotel…butler service, free mini bar, free chauffeur service around the city and the best bit….they would wash our clothes…
…needless to say, we happily accepted the upgrade and paid…clean clothes! The reception is pretty swish in the main hotel lobby…you probably want to know if there is a limit on the laundry service…there wasn’t…we gave our little lady butler a 50 litre bag full of two weeks worth of washing..she’s probably still in shock.
So are you ready to have a snoop inside our suite (room number 311)!
We were shown to our suite which was all rather grand…the lounge…
…our bedroom…
…the bathroom; this was a seriously good bathroom…
…and the mini bar selection! I was surprised to find alcohol in the free mini bar as this isn’t normally the case.
As soon as we stepped out of the suite, you could see the beauty of the old hotel…and we could spot ladies enjoying afternoon tea.
G went to the cigar lounge to surprise surprise, smoke cigars…I’ve told him he’s going to die from lung cancer but he assures me he’s going to die anyway so he’s going to enjoy the cigar…we ordered a spot of lunch…it was a painful experience to say the least. G had placed a gluten free food order for me as I was taking pics of the hotel…so imagine his surprise and mine when they turned up 20 minutes later saying that they couldn’t make the gluten free meal…so back to the drawing board…the food was the major let down in this hotel.
^^on the right hand side is some pics from breakfast…I ate rice, fish and fruit but there was a good selection of other items.
^^^^I won’t even begin to tell you the story about trying to order a gluten free meal via room service…I would need a pina colada…the blog doesn’t need another rant especially not after my recent BA rant.
We obviously tried out the afternoon tea at The Majestic Hotel; it would be rude not too really!
I love a good snoop around the hotel…so I went in search for the Orchid Conservatory…unfortunately they won’t allow you in there unless you have a booking (this was taken through the glass)…
…and the colonial cafe which is rather pretty even though the floral displays were looking a bit droopy.
You can take elevator selfies…mum that’s two photos of me in two posts…I’m not sure what’s going on with my forehead…this must be my concentrating face! The un-ironed dress is from Boden (sorry mum)…it looks like a maternity dress but perfect in high humidity.
The weather was a bit pants while we were in KL…the joys of visiting during rainy season…my goodness when it rains…it really does rain so we never tried out the pool.
Now I know they say you should never air your dirty laundry in public but they never said anything about clean laundry…
While at times I did find things a little bit rough around the edges mainly when it came to ordering food and getting timely service from the kitchen this really was my only complaint.
The butler service had impeccable service and we used the chauffeur service a number of times (the hotel provides you with a mobile so you can call your butler to book a return journey back to the hotel; it’s all rather easy peasy) and we loved the concierge whom loved his city and looked after us extremely well during our stay even though most of the city was closed as it was a public holiday.
Would I recommend the hotel – I would especially if you went for the suite option as I thought it’s really great value for money; free drinks, no worries about taxis and all our clothes washed for free. We ended up paying £140 all up for our two nights in a suite!
Have you stayed at The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur; what did you think of the hotel?
xx
