After many a city break, I’m pretty sure I’ve got the packing malarky sorted for a quick weekend away. I’m not a huge over packer when it comes to a weekend away (that would be the other half) and I like to keep it all pretty simple. This is what I wore to Marseille in November.
Jeans
Jeans are seriously always a good idea for a weekend away, they can be dressed up or down, left or right! Choose jeans that you’re comfortable wearing and remember to take a belt. That’s me keeping it simple as we head down to breakfast (check out the early morning concentration face and the dripping hair – food always wins!)
Shoes
There are always three pairs of shoes that I pack when I head away for a city break; the no brainers! Converse Trainers (seriously comfy and you walk for miles in those babies); Bloch ballet flats (they can easily take you from day to night and are super comfy, they also have a sale on now!) and a pair of Havaianas (great if there is a pool or spa at the hotel).
If I know we’re going out somewhere fancy and the ballet flats aren’t going to cut the mustard then I have my outfit sorted along with a pair of shoes before I leave home. My big tips would be to make sure you try on the outfit before you pack it into your luggage to 1/ check that it still fits and 2/ that there aren’t any stains on the outfit (I live in a DIY project currently and am covered in dust constantly).
Keeping warm
As I’m a Kiwi I love to support New Zealand brands and Icebreaker is what keeps me toasty (a big thank you to my mummy and daddy for always sending me ice breaker gear, I complain A LOT about the freezing cold). The key to keeping warm is layering!
Sunglasses
I always pack a pair of sunglasses (regardless if it’s going to be hot or cold) and at the moment I’m loving my Miu Miu specs that I purchased via World Duty Free (the customer service is incredible and they offer a personal shopper if required)
Tops
I kinda keep it nice and easy when it comes to the tops; long sleeve cotton tops, t shirts (love Zoe Karssen – check out Net-A-Porter or Asos but never pay full price, there is always a sale!) and Breton Stripes are always a pretty good idea.
Handbag
For Marseille I used my Mulberry Bayswater; it’s tardus like and can fit in everything right down to G’s small bottle of tomato ketchup for his cooked breakfast on our BA flight (they don’t have ketchup onboard so he takes his own, sad isn’t it!)
