Patisseries Christian, Strasbourg

Christian is the most famous patisserie shop in Strasbourg; I wasn’t sure if there was a gluten free option until I turned up and they did have one chocolate mousse style cake with nuts…it was good but it didn’t rock my socks off.  There is also a cafe where you can sit down with your cakes or you can take away your goodies.  (The bottom right photo are the cakes full of gluten…they look amazing!)

As I was walking from the train station to the hotel laden with all my luggage, I spotted Patisseries Katzmann and decided to pop in to check out if they had any gluten free options…success, Kautzmann had a gluten free cake option…well actually it was like a meringue wrapped in chocolate.  I managed not to squash it on my way to the hotel…I truly travel for cake.

On my first full day in the Alsace Region I went on a tour of the Alsace Wine Route (it’s a must do!) and found a little Patissiere in Obernai that had a gluten free cake option…and I had a hot chocolate…it was blooming freezing so I was hiding from the cold snuggled up with cake.

Now I think there are a few of these little shops along the Alsace Wine Route and they have a great little selection of gluten free biscuits…there were 5 different flavours on the day so of course I needed to buy one of each; totally for research purposes!  The ladies in the Obernai shop were so sweet and had my photographing everything…they sell meringues as well.

La Pampa, Strasbourg

If there is a gluten free dinner saviour, it’s steak and Strasbourg delivered!  La Pampa is definitely a great place to get yourself a hearty piece of melt in your mouth steak with all the trimmings which are gluten free.  The carrot mousse was amazing!  Bookings are essential.

La Hache, Strasbourg

This cute brasserie is a great place to stop for a meal between museum visits…I really fancied a Caesar Salad however it wasn’t gluten free…don’t ask…my “are you joking” face got a work out!  So I ended up having steak again for the second day in a row.  The chips…well they looked pretty however they weren’t very practical.  I actually preferred the steak at La Hache over La Pampa but the sides were better at La Pampa.
