A Whistle Stop Visit to Hitchin & Molly's Tea Room

On the last day of 2016, G, his mum, his brother and I all headed for a whistle stop visit to Hitchin so we could scoff some cake at Molly’s Tea Room…they were under the impression we were going to be having afternoon tea, they were sorely disappointed…so much so I told G he had the rest of the year to get over it, thankfully it was only another 12 hours or so until 2017 rocked up!

Hitchin is a rather pretty market town in the desirable county of Hertfordshire and with an easy commute from London Kings Cross, it has eye watering house prices…alas it still has a rather pretty town centre.

My love of taking a photo of a door or two was met with ease on our way to Molly’s Tea Room.

People hate going to work however I love it due to having chats with various people and hearing about fantastic new places to visit (as well as playing with spreadsheets all day of course!)...one gentleman tells me all about his vintage tea room adventures with his wife and this is how I heard about Molly’s Tea Room where the chairs are all wearing little socks….

…the socks on chairs totally had me sold, obviously!

^^R’s crutch and my broomstick obviously…it’s the only way to travel…and another chair with socks!

After G realised I hadn’t pre-ordered afternoon tea (you need to give them 24 hours and there is an additional £1.50 charge for the gluten free version), I ordered a piece of yummy gluten free orange drizzle cake and an egg and mayo sarni which was all lovely…

…except I don’t know what happened to the rest of the salad and I was slightly shocked at the additional 50 pence charge for gluten free bread (the only bad point of our whole visit).

G’s brother scoffed his fluffy scones in a few mouthfuls, G’s mum had a cheese scone and a few bites of my cake and well G…after the moaning session of not booking an afternoon tea, he went for a bloody tuna salad…I wanted to stab him with my cake fork…and then as I was trying to be nice, I offered him the last two bites of my cake which he accepted…if he wanted to make it into 2017 he should have declined but hey ho!

^^There were a couple of gluten free cakes on offer, it’s lovely to have options so you can choose whichever tickles your fancy.

The tea rooms are rather quirky and oh so adorable…I can guarantee my mum will love that teapot as Polly is one of my nicknames…I shan’t tell you why mum calls me Polly occasionally but she does along with Kellie Wellie…which then confuses people on how they should spell my name.

G’s brother (R) managed to take a half decent photo of me and my copious amounts of double chins and I took one of R so he could pass it onto his girlfriend…everyone should have a chance of love even if they have disabilities. (I did wash my hair that morning, it looks greasy thanks to putting oil in my hair the night before…that explanation is for my mummy but just incase you were wondering also…and yes no make up…hello bags under the eyes!)

After our morning tea, I managed to locate myself a drunk wobbly house (you know how I’m obsessed with these buildings, even more so after my visit to Lavenham!).

Even though we only visited Hitchin on a little whistlestop tour to visit a tea room, it was a truly delightful way to see 2016 out!
