Afternoon Tea at The Milestone Hotel

Every quarter, the beautiful Selena organizes a Ladies in Blogging Afternoon Tea where a number of ladies who blog, get together around dainty sandwiches, pretty pastries and numerous cups of tea to chat and giggle.  The latest Afternoon tea was held at The Milestone Hotel in Kensington.

Sandwiches

Unfortunately the gluten free sandwiches were extremely dry and I personally think the bread was stale.  The fillings were bland and not that inviting.   For me the best filling was the egg & mayo which provided a bit of contrast to the very dry bread.

Scones

After the disappointing sandwiches, the gluten free scones were finally safely delivered (after a very long two minute wait but not as long as the wait at the Shangri La Shard Afternoon Tea) to our table and I was happy to find that they actually were pretty good.  Normally you will find with most Gluten Free Afternoon Teas that you are provided with plain gluten free scones however on this occasion we were only provided with fruit scones which I really enjoyed.  They scones passed my scone test – they were easy to cut into, I still have all my teeth and they tasted pretty good.

Pastries

The gluten free pastries were once again OK, they weren’t brilliant – the macaroon popcorn popsticks included unpopped popcorn so we could have lost a tooth or three!   The macaroon was nice but the biscuit was dry (gluten free biscuits are generally very very dry).

Tea

As we were a large group in a private room we were only given two options from the tea menu – English Breakfast and Earl Grey which was a shame as I know a number of the ladies were having their very first Afternoon Tea experience so a better selection would have been ideal.

The hotel may have provided us with a cheeky little glass of champagne!

Atmosphere

We were all in a large function room which had dark wood walls and felt quintessentially English.

Service

The service was really good considering that there were over twenty ladies in the room partaking in Afternoon Tea; I think we can say it was faultless from that point of view bar the delay with the scones.

After the Afternoon Tea had finished a number of the Kiwi ladies plus one honourary Kiwi for the evening went to the bar for a light refreshment and also have a little snoop around the hotel.  I did love the Racing Horse themed bar where the service was wonderful as you would expect from a five star hotel.

Would I recommend this Afternoon Tea – To be honest from the gluten free selection that was provided I wouldn’t recommend this Afternoon Tea as providing bread that is stale is a big no no.  Yes we were provided with a large quantity of food however the quality was the let down unfortunately.

The Afternoon Tea at The Milestone Hotel starts at £36.50pp and can be booked via their website here.

For me the biggest highlight of the day was meeting so many wonderful bloggers as I read their blogs on a regular basis and it was lovely to finally meet Sarah, Jenna and Dannielle.  And I must remember to message Emma the next time we meet up as we were like little twins in matching outfits!

If you would love to get involved, please contact Selena through her website so she can add you to the mailing list for the next Ladies in Blogging Afternoon Tea.  Don’t be afraid to join in as its a great way to meet some truly wonderful bloggers.
