For mama’s birthday, a family friend (Christine) organised a day out to try the Cordis Auckland High Tea…it was a lovely afternoon celebrating and spending time with family friends. My high tea was booked as vegetarian at the time of booking.
Vegetarian Sandwiches
There was a delightful and vast variety of vegetarian savouries and sandwiches on offer at the Cordis Auckland High Tea including an open egg sandwich, tomato club sandwich and a cucumber sandwich. I’m quite traditional so I was happy with the selection offered.
Next up was the more flamboyant vegetarian savoury options including Panna Cotta with diced tomato, Butternut Squash on a Corn Crisp and whipped Avocado.
Scones
Next up were the scones and they were bloody amazing…this was my first high tea which wasn’t gluten free and I totally forgot how light and fluffy scones should be.
There were two scones on the menu, the traditional Buttermilk Scones and Spiced Apricot and Buttermilk Scones…those Spiced Apricot scones were life changing and I would happily eat my body weight in these little fluffy clouds any day of the week…am going to give them a try myself one day but a vegan version.
Vegeterian Pastries
A new high tea menu is now available at Cordis Auckland however we experienced the Summer High Tea which included such a great collection of pastries including a Lime and Avocado Mousse, Mint Meringue and Lime Pearls…I loved this pastry a lot…the flavours were just perfect…
…a Twisted Lamington with caramel mousse and caramel popcorn…
…and the Summer Cheer which was the perfect little tart!
Once the cake stands were cleared away, the staff bought out the Summer Flower Pot with included roasted rhubarb, textures of strawberry and vanilla cream cheese. While visually it looked amazing, the flavours just didn’t work for me…
…or the table next to ours unfortunately.
Tea
The High Tea at Cordis Auckland started with a refreshing Oolong Iced Tea which definitely grew on me after the initial sip. The tea is from New Zealand Tea brand, Zealong.
I went for the Jasmine Tea as I find this helps with heart burn after eating too many sweet treats at High Tea.
Service
The service was a little bit of a mixed bag; it was great that the staff bought us blankets as there was a definite draught coming through from the front lobby area to where the afternoon tea was served.
We were a table of 8 however our tea choices had to be repeated as they weren’t written down when originally taken…just a little thing but memorable unfortunately.
Atmosphere
The lounge area is beautiful and just perfect for High Tea; the draught from the lobby area was the only issue that we experienced.
Would I recommend the Cordis Auckland High Tea…this was my first High Tea in New Zealand after eating my way through many afternoon teas in London’s top luxury hotels, so definitely was memorable for that reason alone; the location is beautiful and the variety of pastries and savouries were enjoyable. So yes I would recommend if you would like to book a High Tea for a special occasion.
Next time I’m going to book the Vegan High Tea at Cordis Auckland
High Tea starts at $59 per person and you can find more information on the Cordis Auckland website.
