In true Tiki Tour style, Hunua Falls was a pleasant little drive one afternoon after having a delightfully long lunch with Georgie and Brian (the honeymooners from our afternoon tea date a few months ago at Luton Hoo) and my folks. The Hunua Ranges Regional Park is a short drive from my folks home and it was on my places to visit list when I was home for one reason…
…yes that giant frame! How cool is it and even more awesome than I remembered!?!
We may have got slightly carried away having photos….
^^Christmas card worthy don’t you think…that’s me and mummy
^^^Mum, Dad and me! Dad and I are in the hat brigade but mum doesn’t fancy joining…
I don’t share a lot of photos of me on social media as I don’t really feel comfortable doing so as I captioned when I posted these pics on instagram…not from a security point of view but more of a body confidence issue at the mo. Being back in New Zealand taught me to accept my body again…I find kiwis are more comfortable in their own skin and our casual laid back approach is a lot less judgemental than that of the UK. I’m not perfect and I’ve never tried to be…I will share more pictures on social media going forward and don’t panic I’m not in my 20’s so I won’t be posting hideous tit and arse shots!
Hunua Falls is one of the most dangerous waterfalls in the world as it’s particularly shallow beneath the falls hence jumping is meant to be a big no no but people still do…if you squint you can see a boy at the top of the falls! I remember from my school days that there was always talk of the eels dragging sheep from the side of the Falls and eating them whole…another reason not to jump.
Unfortunately Hunua Falls wasn’t blowing full steam on our visit….it was more of a trickle than a fall but it still looks rather pretty.
Thinking that mum could be trusted not to talk to strangers while Dad and I popped up to the vantage point…seriously butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth just look at her…
…we came back to find mum chatting to a duck…seriously she talks to anyone…and possibly where I get my chatterbox personality from! The duck became slightly besotted with mum and followed her all the way back to the car…we left him behind just in case you were wondering. I don’t think Mum and Dad can be trusted to have pets at the moment…one day I might share the fish and the power drill story…not today though.
Dad the Explorer and I went for our wander…
^^ I was so far behind as I was taking too many photos of all the trees and ferns…
…and of course I was wearing totally appropriate footwear for our little tramping session (thank you to the Intercontinental Berlin for my birthday shoes, I wear them all the time!)…
….see trees…
^^Nature’s sunblock
…more…
…glorious…
…trees…
…you can take the girl out of New Zealand but the girl still gets excited about New Zealand!
I think we were expecting to see a little more of Hunua Falls from this vantage point…I think it’s fair to say that we didn’t read the signs properly and didn’t end up where we were expecting…doh! Can you spot Hunua Falls? It’s kinda like playing Where’s Wally but with a waterfall.
Even though we only visited for a few hours, it was nice to get out into the bush and hear the cicadas sing…they were a bit quiet for my liking on this visit home.
Oh and here is an out take from our frame session…
…and yes I’m holding onto the frame for dear life as it’s a bit jiggly and slightly too far off the ground for my liking…I’m one huge baby!
A number of of the Auckland Regional Parks have these cool frames which you can take photos of…there is so much to see and do in Auckland…I’ve said it before, don’t write off Auckland as a destination and there is more to the city that the CBD, Waiheke and Piha…so so so much more like the Hunua Falls and Duder Regional Park.
xx
