Roger Ebert once said “Nothing ever seems straightforward in Venice, least of all its romances” and it’s the truth when it comes to my romance with this great city. We are currently having some time apart. Enough about me, let’s talk about the Venice Carnival.
Costumes; well you won’t be disappointed as everyone loves to dress up – from the locals to the tourists that travel from far and wide to participate in the annual festival in Venice. If I had to pick a winner, then this costume was my favourite!
But then again every girl needs a Casanova in her life and this was mine! I even got a kiss!
Check out these other beauties
As it was my sisters birthday, she had organised for us to visit a grand Venetian Palace located beside the Grand Canal for a tour finished with Petit Fours. A mask was compulsory – check out these lovely guests attending the event whom got all dolled up!
After learning about the history of the Palace and the family (which included a nasty pope!) we took our seats in a beautiful room
where we were served an amazing hot chocolate and petit fours (there were little meringues which were gluten free).
With Venice Carnival events starting at €50 per person there is a way to indulge in the Carnival for every budget. We would recommend the Hot Chocolate Palace event if you are thinking of dipping your toes in and seeing what the Venice Carnival is all about.
This is why Venice and I are on a break – no rain in the morning and Venice looking beautiful as usual…
…and this is Venice under a very large rain cloud in the afternoon – this isn’t a black and white photo!
Have you visited the Venice Carnival? Would love to hear about your experience.
