Rebecca, Emma and I are really enjoying our monthly travel link ups and this month’s theme is your Best Meal while Travelling. Hey everyone loves food so come and share your best meal. So without further ado here is mine!
There is a bit of a joke when it comes to me travelling to Croatia – I can guarantee that when I return home that none of my clothes will fit – think the Heathrow Injection however with more devastating consequences. It’s safe to say I put on about 3 kilos for each week that I’m in Croatia; a 3 week visit is disastrous. There is a reason for this and it’s generally because I eat like a goddess when I’m in Croatia – the freshest fish you will ever eat along with having Croatia’s best pancake maker as an Aunty. Our family village in Croatia is definitely the place that I have had my best meals while travelling. Lunches in Croatia are long and very social – they go on forever and honestly you will eat more than you think is possible which I love.
While we all enjoy eating there is so much fun to be had with the preparation. If you are wondering about the hairdryer it’s to help the fire along (it wasn’t going fast enough – trust me a hair dryer just doesn’t dry your hair in Croatia). Our lovely Aunty makes Croatia’s best pancakes and they are truly magical; they appear out of nowhere and when you think you can’t eat them you manage to scoff five filled with chocolate; I told you they were magical!
Mum’s birthday cake from a few years ago was so impressive and incredibly delicious. I need to try and make a gluten free version of this cake.
For me Croatia and Food just go together. I can safely say that I don’t think I have ever been hungry while on holiday in Croatia; there is always someone trying to feed me.
And just to prove that I am 34 going on 4 – I still love my ice creams to come like this!
I have yet to visit my family since I have become gluten free however my sister has sent me this photo that she thinks will sum up my experience.
