Wow I can’t believe it’s almost the end of 2013, so I decided to do a nice little round up of the places I have visited in the past twelve months on my luxury travel adventures.
Normally this kiwi flaps her wings and takes off on some wild adventures however this year my wings were slightly clipped due to a house purchase. BUT 2014 is going to be SO different – I will be resuming my crazy travel plans! So here is my 2013 travel round up; enjoy!
Berchtesgaden in Germany
I was in Germany to visit a kiwi friend who was in Germany travelling so I booked us into a gorgeous luxury spa resort that included a Michelin Star restaurant in the German Alps – The Intercontinental Berchtesgaden. To say that this is a great place to visit is an understatement and it’s the one hotel that G keeps talking about and wants to return too! You can read about my Berchtesgaden luxury travel adventures here.
The Landmark Hotel in London
If there is a weekend that I try to avoid travelling on, it’s a bank holiday weekend as most of the population of the UK descends on European cities and there are nightmare queues awaiting you when you land back in the UK. So the first bank holiday in May I decided to travel into London to stay in a luxury hotel in Marylebone which had some of the biggest rooms you will find in London. You can read my review of The Landmark hotel here.
Marseille in France
After seeing the gorgeous view from the new Intercontinental Hotel in Marseille on Instagram I immediately booked a room at this stunning luxury hotel. Marseille was a huge travel surprise for me and I highly recommend visiting this city if you are heading to the south of France. You can read about my Marseille luxury travel adventures here.
Split in Croatia
When it comes to travel plans I can go slightly crazy and this short trip to Split was really a whistle stop 24 hour visit to see my little sister who was in Croatia for a month. The things we do for the people we love; I would travel to the moon and back just to have dinner with my little sister. If you only have 24 hours in Split then I have a guide for you here.
Edinburgh in Scotland
Okay I had almost forgotten I had travelled to Edinburgh which seems slightly weird but thank goodness I wrote a blog post about it otherwise I would have forgotten all about it! I travelled to Edinburgh for Afternoon Tea and G needed 10 tier points before a certain date for this British Airways Executive Club Membership hence the reason for this trip. To be honest it was all for the cake!! I have written a guide on how to eat Afternoon Tea in London and Edinburgh in one weekend; trust me it’s possible and you can read the post here.
St Leonards and Hastings in England
After realising that the Scots were stealing all the sunshine on my Edinburgh trip and that England was still blooming freezing, my friend and I decided we needed to blow away the cobwebs before Spring finally made it’s way to ol’ blighty. A trip to the English seaside was just what the doctor ordered however our luxury zen like B&B cancelled on us as we were on the train down to St Leonards (not very zen like!) and the manager had to find us some alternative accommodation. You can read about my St Leonards and Hastings luxury travel adventures here.
Luxembourg City in Luxembourg
I like travelling to new countries and this was the only new country I added to my list this year (big unhappy fat face!) however I fell in love with little Luxembourg which is probably the most child friendly place to visit in Europe! It was my first time staying at a Sofitel – it was okay however I am definitely an IHG kind of girl probably due to the benefits that I receive through their loyalty programme. You can read about my Luxembourg luxury travel adventures here.
Vienna in Austria
It’s always nice to visit a city that you have longed to visit for years and to arrive and not get disappointed by it! We stayed for four nights in the most beautiful suite at the Intercontinental Vienna where I experienced the best customer service in a luxury hotel and the staff were always smiling which I loved. Four nights wasn’t enough in Vienna so I definitely need to head back and eat more cake! You can read about my Vienna luxury travel adventures here.
The Athenaeum in London
I’m a big fan of the Secret Escapes website as you can pick up some fabulous travel deals for some of London’s top hotels. I booked us in for a cheap weekend away to discover the area around Piccadilly and have Afternoon Tea at The Athenaeum. You can read about my Piccadilly, London luxury travel adventures here.
Dusseldorf in Germany
For me it’s not Christmas until I visit a Christmas Market in Germany so this year we decided to travel to the city of Dusseldorf to visit the markets, do some shopping and stay at one of Dusseldorf’s most luxurious hotels which was located on the main shopping drag – I should have left the credit card in the hotel room safe! Eek! You can read about my Dusseldorf luxury travel adventures here.
The Intercontinental Westminster in London
I have yet to put up a post of my stay last weekend at the Intercontinental in Westminster but here is a little post of the Gluten Free Afternoon Tea that I managed to scoff!
… and then I remembered that I had visited Disneyland Paris last week! Oops!
I hope everyone has had an enjoyable travel year.
Happy 2014 travels!
