Gluten Free Seville Guide

I’ve said it before, travelling gluten free can be extremely hard…I always find it challenging and I’m thankful for all those 100% gluten free bloggers out there that share their tips.  So without further ado here is my Gluten Free Seville Guide!

Let’s start with what Seville is famous for…Oranges!  I love eating fresh fruit and it’s so easy to find when travelling however the quality I often find is pretty pants especially in Europe…a great place to visit for fresh fruit, vegetables, ham and cheese in Seville is the covered market, Mercado de Triana…the prices are reasonable and the quality of the produce is amazing…I left loaded with strawberries and pineapple.

So Seville Oranges…for some reason these pesky little things made me extremely sick…to the point that I was crippled over on the side walk and couldn’t stand up straight.  After a game of food elimination, I removed the oranges and all my stomach cramps disappeared…so just a friendly word of warning if you get an upset tummy.

We had an evening meal at Hotel Alfonso XIII which is one of the hotels we stayed at during our trip to Seville…the meal was okay…I was finally provided with a gluten free roll which was perfectly acceptable…

…the gluten free choices available only consisted of fish, which I don’t mind however a few other options would be lovely to say the least; I really wanted the beef and asked for it to be served without the sauce, apparently this couldn’t be done.  My main course which obviously consisted of fish was okay, I wouldn’t be rushing back to have dinner at the hotel if I visited Seville again…

…however the dessert was a gluten free winner and I would highly recommend this if you’re dining at the hotel…this is the extremely yummy Tocino de Cielo, an egg custard pudding with syrup and a beautiful rose cream – absolutely divine!

For my birthday dinner we visited Fargo which is a unique little establishment and a must visit if you have intolerances as they offer gluten free, dairy free, vegan and organic meals…

…my black Andalucian pork melted in my mouth and G had food envy.  I picked a thick early grey tea chocolate mousse for dessert which I would highly recommend, G had to finish this off for me as once again he had a serious case of food envy.

^^Sorry about the bad photo…darn mood lighting!

The gluten free breakfast options were rather simple at Hotel Casa 1800 Seville however I’m pretty happy with fresh fruit, yoghurt and cup of tea for brekkie as this is what I normally have at home.

The gluten free options at Hotel Alfonso XIII were very good and with plenty of options…they were also serving up omelettes however the queue did put me off…

…so I pigged out on strawberries…I love strawberries so this wasn’t a hardship at ALL!

Let’s talk about fries…so as the Seville Oranges killed my gut, the only thing that would stay in my tummy were Burger King fries.  I know people will probably cringe at me mentioning Burger King or McDonalds however these establishments can be gluten free quick fixes when you’re on the move visiting a city!  I don’t judge people visiting the golden arches on holiday…don’t judge a person until you’ve walked in their shoes…especially when looking for gluten free options.  G thinks it’s funny that oily fries settle my tummy but they do…go figure right?!?!?

I really wanted to visit more places around Seville however it wasn’t possible with my severe upset tummy that I now get quite often on holiday these days.

I should point out that I’m not a fan of tapas…why would you want to share plates of food with someone…I seriously want to stab G with my fork when he lunges in to steal a roast potato so tapas would potentially become a bloody murder scene so I avoid at all costs.
