The accountant in me hates paying stupid money so when we had a change of plans and decided to head to Greece instead of China, I thought it was the perfect time to cross Santorini off my bucket list especially as it was off season. I found a rather reasonable hotel at £100 per night in Oia which was perfect for sunset spotting and a hot tub!

Let me take you for a little snoop around Lovers House which is part of the Oia Collection; a variety of different apartments aka cave houses dotted around Oia offering magnificent views and comfortable lodgings.
We had organised a transfer with the manager direct from the airport which is the easiest and cheapest way of getting from Thira airport to Airport (25 euros for up to 3 person) and was met my Elvis whom politely carried my rather heavy suitcase through the streets of Oia.
I had opted for Lovers House as it had a hot tub; somewhere for G and I to relax…some down time after the year we’ve had.
The view from the hot tub was fabulous…and G successfully turned into a prune a few times during our stay!
Popping inside the apartment, you’ve got a rather spacious and airy lounge and living area…
…those poor chairs had all our bags and jackets over them about ten minutes after this photo was taken as it’s right by the door…
…including a telly which we only turned on once as we spent most of the holiday reading; we both sat down and finally watched Eat, Pray, Love with Julia Roberts while eating a rather dodgy omelette that G had made.

The bedroom contained a comfy bed which had no issues turning me into sleeping beauty for a few nights…
…and I’m sure the folks staying in Oia would agree that G had no issue sleeping with his snoring action. We did find it slightly weird that the duvet inner wasn’t inside a cover…my mind went to a weird place with that one but there was a top sheet…Europe is really really weird when it comes to it’s bedding action.
Overall we were comfy and there were power plugs by the bed…phew!
Moving across to the cave bathroom…I’m taller than G however he managed to hit his head going into the bathroom but I didn’t…
…it’s not the biggest of spaces considering the size of the living area however toiletries were provided which I wasn’t really expecting. Okay the black toilet did freak me out…I’ve never seen a black toilet before and they are just sooooo weird…we had a pink toilet in Arundel…that also freaked me out.
Anyone else out there get scared of coloured toilets??
There was a self catering kitchen which included a SMEG fridge, oven, hob, microwave and coffee machine which came in very handy…as we were visiting during off season in Santorini, a number of the restaurants were closed so we came to a decision to visit the local supermarket and make a few of our own meals and eat outside which also saved us a few pennies and meant I could have feta for breakfast.

The best thing about the Lovers House is the view AT SUNSET…it has the best location for watching that glorious sunset…
…I waited and waited…this was the best that it got…
…okay I was expecting a lot more but you know beggars can’t be choosers and it was still pretty!
As I said earlier, the best part of this apartment is the terrace area which is rather private so you could happily sunbathe away while the streets are filled with folks waiting for the sunset and exploring Oia below…
…and you do have fabulous views over Oia to enjoy yourself without leaving the apartment…to the left…
…to the right.
Accommodation in Oia, Santorini does vary depending on which season you visit – Lovers House was available for £100 per night in November but it’s cheaper again in December…however it’s available for over £400 per night in August!
Travel Tips for Oia Collection, Santorini
- We stayed at Lovers House which was perfect for two persons and included the best spot to watch the sunset that Santorini is famous for
- Wifi was a good speed and included in the price
- Breakfast is an additional cost however we walked to the other end of Oia and found the local supermarket and bought ourselves some treats (easier when you’re gluten free!)
- There are a number of stairs to enter this property however there are two gates if you are bringing small kids so they would be secure
- If you are desperate for something to eat there is a restaurant just a few seconds away from the apartment that does crepes, waffles, salads and ice cream however they only take cash.
- I booked directly through Oia Collection as they had a good offer on if you booked directly with them however I would suggest looking at prices on booking.com to compare prices
- The property includes a fridge, oven, cooktop etc so you would be able to make your own meals easily plus we were left with some basics in the fridge for our stay
- The property was cleaned daily during our stay
- The manager can organise a pick up from the airport for 25 euros for up to three persons, it makes it easier to find the property if you organise this.
