When we visited Split in 2017, I was left totally flabbergasted about what had happened to the city that I used to love…so on this whistle-stop tour of Split, I left the city much happier. The city and the whole of Croatia has definitely changed over the years, like most of us…while it’s definitely a lot more commercial thanks to the Game of Thrones franchise, it was much sweeter to visit off peak than during peak season.
Mum had some last minute wedding shopping she needed to do…she needed a new bag and shoes…and we also needed to visit the flower market…
…where mum found the flowers required for the wedding!
We decided to wander through the old town of Split…
…reminiscing about our previous visits to the city…I remember sitting here having a drink on our final night in Croatia during our very first visit way back in 2001…
…we caught a whiff from the fish market…
…did the compulsory Dalmatian shrug…generally performed by mothers with sons I’ve found…
…the sun was shining brightly so we hid in the narrow lanes to keep cool…
…always remembering to look up at the beautiful old buildings…
…and pretty balconies…
…while sneaking through large squares which are now overflowing with tables and chairs…years ago I remember concerts and movies were shown in this area…how times have changed.
Ma and Pa had a little weigh in…
…something that we’ve all done over the years to check on our growing Dalmatian bellies while in Split! Thankfully Lisa’s demanding holiday walking programme is pretty much a killer and helps you lose a belly roll or two.
Split…I thought we were on a break however I think we might be friends again!
xx
