Why We've Cancelled Our Peru Trip

Last night G and I made a decision to cancel our Peru trip.  Peru was one of our bucket list destinations however for us, family comes first.

A few weeks ago, G’s dad got ill in Morocco…everyone thought it was a case of an upset belly however he’s not got any better.

Last Thursday he was admitted to hospital with what they thought was a viral infection so they ran some tests.

Here’s my snarky NHS comment – apparently doctors don’t work bank holidays so they can’t provide you with results until the following Tuesday…a hospital ward is not a happy place to be in on a Tuesday after a bank holiday…there’s a back log of unhappy news!

Yesterday we found out for certain that it wasn’t an infection but the Big C.

We decided to cancel Peru as travelling isn’t the end all or be all of everything…regardless of what travel bloggers tell you.

I don’t want G to have any regrets hence it doesn’t matter to me if we tick Machu Picchu off our bucket list this year or never – I’m a firm believer that things happen for a reason in life and it’s just not our time to visit.

Luckily we’ve got travel insurance through my HSBC bank account and they were wonderful this morning; I totally know where I stand with them which is fantastic and I’ve got a case worker assigned to me for the whole claim.

As I’ve said before…don’t plan a trip or go travelling unless you can afford travel insurance as you never know when you will need it!
