After my morning visit to the little chocolate box village of Clare, my next pit stop was exploring Cavendish which was only a short drive away…like less than 10 minutes…barley enough time for a boogie in the car. If you’ve seen photos of Suffolk then you’ve probably seen the iconic photo of Cavendish…the large village green, the pink cottage and the church behind.
^^If not, now you have!
I parked in front of a house for sale…I call this omen, I may have instantly downloaded a property app to my phone and stalked the inside of the house…G later talked some sense into me about how long my commute would be to Luton…honestly he can be such a spoilsport! A girl can dream right?!?
The village is rather tiny so it was an easy little wander around…enjoying the pretty little homes…
…there were some rather cuties to admire!
Pretty in Pink makes the Boys Wink! Spot me if you can!
I really loved this house, the owners exited the house as I was photographing their front door…caught in the act, doh! They thought it was hilarious, I have no shame whatsoever (including when asked what was so good about their front door…I tried to explain door porn, he just didn’t get it!) and we had a chat for a bit about their home…apparently I could have it as it was a noose around their neck.
Period homes are VERY expensive to maintain…we know this fact as G’s parents house is older than New Zealand.
Spring flowers and blossoms were popping up and opening…
…windows were getting thrown open for a spring airing…
…the church was looking heavenly in the sunshine…
…and I just wandered around this chocolate box village in a trance…I love little villages like this!
I may have fallen in love with another house in Cavendish…this time it wasn’t for sale…
…drats as I love it a lot…and yes I know I say this all the time but I really do love it…I could totally see me cursing that front gate each day trying to get into the garden and then knocking my head coming into the house!
Exploring Cavendish had worked up a sweat as it was super photogenic, my finger needed a rest and a cold drink…warm spring days are a blessing…so I popped inside a little antique shop come tea room…
…where you can eat and drink yourself silly surrounded by antiques…
…there is so much to look at and you will want to buy everything…I may have walked away with a gorgeous bright yellow vase that I really love…a cheaper option than the house…
…the best bit was when he took my card for payment and used the old fashioned hand swipe machine with carbon paper for signature…I almost had kittens…only in Suffolk folks, only in Suffolk…and only in an antique shop!
Of course, I found myself a few doors to photograph…
…it wouldn’t be a road trip without a few doors tucked away safely inside my camera.
I found a bit of shade under a tree on the green and just watched village life pass me by…
…I may have taken a little shoefie as well (my stomach muscles received a work out with me leaning back with my legs stuck high into the air…this shoefie made me break a sweat!)…
…but totally worth it in the end!
How cute is this little village shop…
…honestly I love village life…it feels easy and everyone is so supportive. And I just love the notice board from the Coronation…yes I’m a Royalist and I’m proud of this fact…I’ve even attended a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace in the past!
Cavendish is gorgeous…it is exactly what you would expect from a Chocolate Box Village in England…
…pretty pink cottages…check…village green…check…church…check…cute tea rooms…check…
…photogenic as hell…check…check and check again!
Cavendish…if I wrote a post of my favourite 10 Chocolate Box Villages in England…you would be on the list.
Travel Tips for Exploring Cavendish, Suffolk
- It’s an easy drive from Bury St Edmunds, Lavenham or Clare and parking is a breeze, just find a spot on the road.
- There are a few pubs dotted around the village if you are peckish or you can visit the Cavendish Antiques & Tea Rooms (unfortunately they don’t have gluten free options).
- The Green at Cavendish would be picture perfect spot for a picnic
- It’s pretty flat in Cavendish and there isn’t a huge amount of places to walk to so you could get away with pretty shoes…but make them comfortable!
- Why not check out my Suffolk Weekend Itinerary if you are planning to visit this neck of the woods.
xx
