We did a lot of tiki tours when I was home in New Zealand…including a visit to the beautiful Wintergardens in the Auckland Domain…and a rather slow drive by of my favourite building in the whole of New Zealand…the Auckland Museum.
It’s pretty safe to say that we’re not the earliest of risers and when dad wants us all out of bed he generally starts up various power tools…or bounces on the bed asking if you want poached eggs on toast (gluten free vogels bread no less)…seriously good service in this little luxury hotel in South Auckland…I may have to pop back very soon. So Mum, Lisa and I went for a little drive into the city on one of the hottest days of the year to venture inside a glass house…we’re smart ladies!
Parking was a breeze in the Domain and they were giving out free massages in the front of the Wintergardens
^^Only in crazy New Zealand!
The Wintergarden is made up of two large green houses and a beautiful courtyard so off we went and discovered the delights of the first glass house…
…full…
…of…
…beautiful…
…colourful…
…bouncy…
…flowers!
Mum and I had a little selfie moment and got seriously photobombed by sunflowers.
^^Mum did I leave this top behind in New Zealand? (easier to ask in a blog post as I will forget to ask on our skype call and I’m just checking that she reads my blog like she tells me she does…love setting a good mummy trap!)
Bouncing around the pretty pond that separates the two glasshouses…
…something caught my eye…pssttt…it wasn’t that bright shiny light either…we were visiting mid afternoon which isn’t good for photos I know…you need a crowbar to get me out of bed in the mornings…I’ve digressed…something caught my eye…
…a shady area with many a naked lady…I kept my clothes on just in case you were wondering…and so did mum and Lisa.
The second glasshouse is all a bit more tropical…and we had already broken a sweat in the first.
As I was surrounded by nature, I felt the need to pull a yoga pose…okay it was only with my fingers…
…and then just a cheesy pose among the foliage.
Lisa and I waited around the lily pads to catch a frog…mum has already kissed her prince charming…
…but it seemed that they had run out of frogs by mid afternoon so we didn’t get a wet smooch!
Is it wrong that I want a huge glass house like this now?
We popped into the very shady fernery which was a much welcome relief…
…after a while all the ferns started to look the same so Mum and Lisa posed nicely for me…
…let’s try again!
We saw a couple of tuis but they seemed a bit wooden…
…okay one more of the ferns, you’re not escaping that easy!
I managed to spot a Koru which is a unfurling silver fern frond and symbolises new life, growth, strength and peace…the silver fern is on the All Black jumpers
Walking back to Roberto (that’s Lisa’s black Fiat 500), I spotted the Sky Tower…
…and then we had our slow drive by of the Auckland Museum before it was time for Home James!
The Wintergardens in Auckland Domain were established after World War I and is now a protected heritage site in New Zealand. Entry is free and it’s a beautiful spot for a picnic and to laze under a flowering pohutukawa.
If you want to read about all our other Tiki Tours then there are a few including Duder Regional Park, Hamilton Gardens, Hunua Falls, Muriwai Beach and Piha and last but not least, Howick Historical Village.
Where’s your favourite spot in Auckland?
