Afternoon Tea at Flemings Hotel, Mayfair

The one thing about eating so much Afternoon Tea this year is that I have found some hotels which are pure London treasures; you wouldn’t even know they existed and last Sunday we visited one of those treasures – Flemings Hotel, Mayfair just located off bustling Piccadilly.

Now I have come to the conclusion that boys do like Afternoon Tea and once again we had one of G’s friends with us to sample the sweet delights.

Sandwiches

The gluten free sandwiches were lovely with the soft white bread that I do adore, with the traditional fillings of chicken, salmon, cucumber and egg.  As I had my own cake stand of gluten free treats, I think I got spoilt with the quantity provided (and this isn’t a complaint!)

Scones

There was just the one scone provided and for the price this was expected.  Once again the scone has passed my scone test with flying colours – it was easy to cut into, it didn’t chip my tooth and it was extremely yummy.

And yes I do prefer having my clotted cream on the bottom and jam on top as I find that I end up in less mess.

Pastries

I am very partial to a Bakewell Tart and was delighted to see one of the pastry plate along with a Rose Macaroon.  Even though I do feel slightly cheated seeing fresh fruit on my pastry plate as the gluten free alternative, having a chocolate covered strawberry was actually bliss as I did feel extremely full.  There was a great selection of sweet treats.

Tea

The vouchers that I had purchased for the Afternoon Tea were for the chocoholic tea so the choices were Chocolate, Chocolate and Cream and Caramel tea.  I went for the Chocolate Tea which is actually really nice – two of my favourite things combined!  Just need to find a nice Mint Chocolate Tea and I would be one happy kiwi girl.

Atmosphere

The Afternoon Tea is served downstairs in a quite dark room which I actually liked strangely enough.  I am guessing it won’t be to everyone’s taste buds but I liked it – it was something a bit different and had a manly feel to it.  If you want to try an Afternoon Tea without the fussy atmosphere then Flemings Hotel, Mayfair is a great choice for you.

Service

The service was incredible and I should note I made an error and didn’t realise that the Living Social voucher I had didn’t cover a gluten free Afternoon Tea however they honoured my voucher and provided me with a gluten free alternative for no extra charge which was lovely; so thank you for that!

The table service was amazing, it wasn’t intrusive and even though the Afternoon Tea didn’t include refills they provided G with a couple more of the chocolate brownies which he fell in love with free of charge.

Would I go back – yes as I found they offered a great gluten free Afternoon Tea plus great service.

The traditional Afternoon Tea starts at £25pp.
